Bayern excessively hot for Arsenal!
Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Thomas Muller scored the goals to leave Arsenal confronting yet another last 16 exit.
Arsenal, who have been eliminated in the main knockout round of the competition in each of the last six seasons, twice by Bayern, not only surrendered by five goals but over 75% possession in Germany.
Their challenge endured until the break because of Alexis Sanchez, who followed up his own missed penalty to equalise after Arjen Robben’s amazing 25-yard opener.
Yet, after Arsenal lost Laurent Koscielny to injury early in the second half, Bayern ran wild amid a 10-minute time frame in which Robert Lewandowski headed home before Thiago Alcantara scored twice. Substitute Thomas Muller rubbed salt in the injuries with a late fifth, 5-1 at the end of the match.
It leaves Arsenal with impossible task in the second leg and stacks more weight on Manager Arsene Wenger, who now just has the FA Cup as a realistic source of silverware in what will go down as another failed season.
